Textile art that speaks of people, memory and connection

Faces Series Painting

My art is deeply personal, created from my own life experience and observation of the world around me. I currently work with old family photos, creating an imaginary life for all those lost faces.

IN PROGRESS

Creating story, memory and meaning

Old family photos haunt me, I have no idea who they are, other than they are my family. These lost faces feed my practice, I create stories as I work with their photos, making a connection to those who have gone before me.

My art is deeply personal, these photos are my only link to my family, and I find drawing, painting, and stitching, mainly large-scale pieces, brings me a sense of my place in the world even if it is mainly brought from my imagination.

ABOUT SUSAN

Susan has taught mainly adults for many years, those just beginning their artistic journey through to graduates in their field. She has lectured, exhibited and judged throughout the UK and Europe.

She has a need to create her art to enrich her life, it makes her life real, it makes sense of her life.. she needs to write and draw, to free her mind, to focus her, and to go forward then to create the art.

She makes observations of people and the relationships between them, the way they interact, and nearly always works with the human form. Drawing, painting, printing, and stitching are the rhythms of her work.
