Progress with Romsey Abbey exhibition Piece

More news on the new piece …. I hired the committed to cloth brand new studio for three days last weekend, fri sat and sun.. do look at the new website that Leslie has created. She has lots going on with some great tutors coming to teach there. It is not far from the M25 just after the Reigate turn and before the Gatwick one. Eleven print tables and I was able to use all of them at once! The new piece which I am calling ‘Communion’ requires 30 two metre panels and I have, after three twelve hour days on the benches, fifteen panels all printed with the backgrounds …it took nearly the whole first day to cut the fabrics and put them through the soda soak in readiness for the thickened procion MX dyes…. the first day was completed by creating two small samples so that I could decide on my intentions for the remaining two days….it took an hour for the first application of colour for each panel which was the base patterning in grey and in brown… then I applied colour over these which was a further 40 mins for each! Not going to tell you about the colour or the imagery at this stage, suffice to say this is me returning to stonking colour after several years of being very neutral… I am thrilled with the results, havent done the rinsing yet but half the panels are now sorted… obviously not ready for the stitch yet, but hopefuly i will have all the panels ready to stitch over the Easter break from college and teaching… watch this space!
