Almost Ready to go

The ICHF show Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch will be open on Thursday until Sunday, 17-20 March, to find out more please visit

It is a fabulous show in Hall 12 of the NEC. All the usual suspects will be there including ArtVanGo and Oliver Twists… My favourite clothes stand with the gorgeous UWE always able to sell me something new to wear.. lots of exhibitions, lots of shops so bring your money and cards!

All the stitching is finished, just got the leaflets and statements to update and print, battens to cut and drill …. clothes are washed , packing started

Here are a few images to whet your appetite… can’t show the whole pieces because they wouldn’t be new to the exhibitions I have this year.

The first pic is of a group of five titled ‘Not Invisible’, it is said that when we get grey haired and over 60 we become invisible ….. not in my world we don’t! These will be shown as part of the Room6  exhibition titled ‘6 Shades of Grey’ so please do pop in and say hello to whoever is stewarding that day

The second pic shows a group of five again this time titled ‘Men at Work’ and the third pic is titled ‘The Building of New York’ and is drawn from the iconic photograph of workmen sitting on a  girder high up above the New York skyline. this one is a monster, over 10feet wide. These pieces will be shown in the People and Places gallery, where Kim Thittichai and I will be showing our new work and demonstrating too. Please pop by and say hello

hope to see you there

Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch, ICHF Show at the NEC

With all the activity getting the Granary Studio up and running I havent had time to report back on the great Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch Show which is presented by ICHF ( International Craft and Hobbies Fair) every year on the third weekend in March at the NEC in Birmingham. It is held at the same time as the Hobbycrafts Show and the Sewing for Pleasure Show. This makes for a very interesting and interested audience and even in our part of this event there is great variety with college graduate displays, and catwalk shows with the exuberance of the music floating across the show three times each day. The sister show is staged a week later at the Excel in  London.
It is the first show I attend in the year, and the Pic below shows my stand and the visit of the lovely Kevin Mead from Art Van Go at the end of the day when the coaches have left and the show becomes quieter. this is when we get the chance to catch up with old friends. the photo is courtesy of the Gorgeous Kim Thittichai with whom I will be presenting something special at this show next year, watch this space…

ICHF at EXCEL in London

Just bought my train ticket to EXCEL tomorrow. I will be stewarding on the Barkcloth to Artcloth exhibition of children’s shoes which is the idea of Bobby Britnell who supports a village in Uganda … and Janet Middleton who makes children’s shoes. It is a fabulous exhibition and I am so pleased to be part of it. Bobby’s charity is called ‘Hands Up for Uganda’ ..the activities are explained on the website, do go and have a look..

hope to see some of you there!

ICHF show at the NEC

A wonderful weekend at the ICHF show. I was involved in four different stands so I didn’t get out into the show much, it was very busy every day. I managed to get out to do a bit of shopping and meet up with some old friends. this is the Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch show which is now held alongside Hobbycrafts and Sewing for Pleasure.

ByDesign had their Marginal exhibition, do go to our website where I expect there will be pics soon,

My summer 2013 graduates from the Foundation Degree Stitched textiles had their own stand in the college section. They are going to be exhibiting at the autumn Knit and Stitch shows under the name Marks and Stitch. I am really looking forward to seeing their next body of work now that they are ex students.

Bobby Britnell had an exhibition of children’s shoes. she is involved with supporting a village in Uganda and Janet Middleton has made pairs of children’s shoes from barkcloth that lots of us have decorated for the charity,  do go to the website to see more. . there were 120 tiny pairs of shoes, a wonderful display which will also be at the EXCEL show next weekend , sister show to the nec one

Finally, I had a demonstration stand where I had a lot of fun printing from bits and pieces from a dismantled sewing machine!

here are some pics of the college stand and my demonstrator stand
